Sacraments. Prayer and Liturgy will be woven into lessons throughout the year as the students. The seventh
grade will work to deepen their faith and their commitments to service and social justice. The religion
curriculum will also include a community service component this year. Students will be required to complete
thirty service hours as part of their religion studies (ten hours per trimester). Many of these service hours can

Classroom Information & Expectations

Absences & Make-Up Work
When you are absent contact your homework buddy about what you missed in class and what your
homework is. Your homework buddy is the first person you should contact about missing work/notes. If you
still have questions or need to schedule a time to make-up a test or quiz, speak with me immediately upon
your return to school. You get as many days as you missed to complete your work (for example, if you are
absent for three days, youll get three days to complete the work you missed and make up any tests/quizzes
you may have missed).
Grading -The Archdiocesan grading scale will be used (please see the Parent-Student Handbook for more
information). Your parents can expect regular communication about your progress and should contact me
with any questions. Power School is another way that your parents can check-in on how youre doing in class.
You will also need to regularly check Power School. Checking Power School will make sure that you know if
you have missing assignments. I will update Power School regularly with homework, test, and quiz scores.
Homework -Students will be assigned homework regularly. Homework must be submitted on the day it is
due. No late work will be accepted. Any work that is submitted after the due date will be reviewed by the
teacher and can only earn a maximum score of 50%. Meaning, if you dont turn your homework in on time,
you still must complete it, but will only get half-credit for it. If you are having trouble with your workload,
please see me and we can work something out. Please also see the information regarding the expectations for
written work.
Participation Grades - The participation grade is sometimes confusing to students. In my class it is very clear.
You start the week with 10 points. Every time you are Off Task you will lose a point. You will NOT lose
points for behavior issues. You can be On Task but be creating a behavioral problem. The behavior will be
dealt with via the discipline procedure and will not affect your grade. I expect you to work hard this year and
stay on task.
In-Class Conduct
Classoom Expectations: You are expected to be:
Prompt Students are expected to be in their seats before the bell rings to begin
class and begin the warm up activities when the bell rings
Prepared - Students will come to class with all necessary materials including notebook, paper, pencils,
textbook and be ready to work.
Polite In Mr. Moynihans class all individuals will treat each other with respect. This means listen politely
when someone is speaking, raise your hand to make a spoken comment, and use polite language at all times.
Positive All comments and contributions will be made in a manner that promotes a positive atmosphere.
Give your best effort on class activities and assignments. If you are having trouble with an activity ASK for help
or more information (Ask a fellow student, refer to the text or your notes, ask Mr. Moynihan.)
Participate Make decisions to contribute to your own learning. Join in class activities.
Ask questions during class. Complete assignments on time and in a thoughtful manner.
All of these rules or 5 Ps contain the essential elements to make the classroom environment one in which
learning takes place. Following these rules will promote a spirit of cooperation that will facilitate learning for
all students.
A student who is having trouble focusing will be given verbal warnings by me. If there continues to be an
issue, our schools discipline policy will be the next step and the student will be given a Think Sheet. Being
that you are seventh and eighth graders, I dont expect conduct issues to ever go beyond a Think Sheet. I
anticipate a year with few problems, as we are the leaders of the school and must set a positive example for
the younger students. Please see the Parent-Student Handbook for more information regarding conduct.
Phones, Money, Backpack
If you bring your phone, iPod, money, sunglasses, etc to school, those items must remain OFF and IN your
backpack at all times. The school is not responsible for these items if they are lost or stolen.
Website
I maintain a website for our classroom. Here, youll be able to find class newsletters, information about
classroom policies, and most importantly, a calendar of upcoming deadlines and important dates. I will also
post information on snow days about work that you can be doing at home. This will be a helpful resource for
you and your parents! I also maintain a Google calendar that is shared among all students. This calendar will
be helpful for your long range planning, as well as help you stay organized and be a good time manager.
Finally . . .
I expect you to be successful this year. It will be a challenging year academically but I am confident you can do
well. You will need to develop a system to keep yourself organized. You will also need to find yourself a place
to study. Create a study place to do your homework. Block out a definite time to start your homework every
day. I will be available to help you after school if you need extra help, but I encourage you to be part of your
education and ask all your questions during class. You are in 7
th
and 8
th
grade now and the bar for success gets
higher every year. I know you can rise to the challenge. Eagles soar. They fly over their challenges. I look
forward to a great year.
Go EAGLES.
