4.5.2 Resi dual stress (mercurous ni tr ate) . The test shal l be
conducted i n accordance wi th SCATP 7.62.
4.5.3 Waterproof. The ammuni ti on to be tested (not to exceed
f i ve cartri dges at one t i me) shal l be pl aced hori zontal l y on a
perf orated tray. The tray shal l be pl aced i n a desi ccator
contai ni ng a suf f i ci ent quanti ty of f reshl y boi l ed water to
mai ntai n a head of 2 to 2-1/2 i nches. The desi ccator shal l be
evacuated to a pressure of 7-1/2 pounds per square i nch (15 i nches
of mercury) bel ow atmospheri c pressure and hel d at that pressure
f or 30 seconds. The number of bubbl es l i berated from the mouth or
primer of each cartri dge shal l be observed.
4.5.4 Accuracy. The test shal l be conducted i n accordance
wi th TECP 700-700, V ol . I I I .
4.5.5 Acti on t i me. The test shal l be conducted i n accordance
wi th SCATP-7.62.
4.5.6 Vel oci ty. The test shal l be conducted i n accordance

4.5.9 Stri ppi ng. The test shal l be conducted si mul taneousl y

The si ze of the paper screen shal l be 6' x 6l, The paper screen
(6' x 6') shal l be pl aced 50 f eet from the muzzl e of the gun, so
that the bul l ets w i l l pass through the screen near i ts center.
Af ter each weapon is f i red f or f uncti on and casual ty, the screen
shal l be exami ned for evi dence of stri ppi ng bul l et j ackets. The
screen shal l be recovered or repl aced as necessary to f aci l i tate
observati on, Any evi dence of stri ppi ng i ndi cated by any i rregul ar
perf orati ons on the paper screens, and the weapon(s) i n which
stri ppi ng occurred shal l be reported.
4.5,lO Temperature test. The test sample shal l be
condi ti oned at 700F, pl us or mi nus 2 degrees F, f or 2 hours
minimum and fi red at that temperature. -
I 4.5.11 Defect penal ty. I n any bal l i sti c test, except
f uncti on and casual ty, i n which the occurrence of a f i r i ng def ect
prevents the obtai ni ng of a rel i abl e r esul t for the char acter i sti c
bei ng tested, an addi ti onal shot shal l be fi red. That parti cul ar
test shal l not be penal i zed, but the acceptance sampl e shal l be
penal i zed for such def ects i n accordance wi th Tabl e I or I I I , as
