Past Perfect Tense
Past perfect tense is used to indicate that one action
occurred before another action in the past. In other words, past perfect
tense indicates the first of the two actions.








Commonly time signal used for this sentences is before, after, until and as
soon as.

Formula:
Subject + had + past participle

Example:
Completed Action Before Something in the Past

(+) My mother had breakfast before she went to market.
(-) My mother had not breakfast before she went to market.
(?) Had my mother breakfast after she went to market?


Duration Before Something in the Past

(+) Buti had lived on Serang for two years before she moved to
Pekanbaru.
(-) Buti had not lived on Serang for two years before she moved to
Pekanbaru.
(?) Had Buti lived on Serang for two years before she moved to
Pekanbaru?

Important Specific Times with the Past Perfect

(+) Dita had started her elementary school in 2001 before she finished it in
2007.
(-) Dita had not started her elementary school in 2001 before she finished it in
2007.
(?) Had Dita started her elementary school in 2001 before she finished it in
2007.


Future Perfect Tense
Future Perfect Tense is used to express an action which will occur in future and
is thought to be completed in future.





Formula :
I/we + shall + have + V

You/they/she/he/it + will + have + V

Completed Action Before Something in the Future










Example :
(+) We shall have finished our task at the end of this week.
(-) We shall not have finished our task at the end of this week.
(?) Shall we have finished our task at the end of this week?

Duration Before Something in the Future (Non-Continuous Verbs)







Example :
(+) I will have studied for four years by the time I graduated.
(-) I will not have studied for four years by the time I graduated.
(?) Will you have studied for four years by the time you graduated?
