We are very excited and are looking forward to a great year of learning with your children. The following
is a list of the 6

grade expectations that will help us facilitate your childs learning. Please review the
following infor!ation with your child and sign/return the parent/student acknowledge!ent for! found at
the end of this docu!ent.
AGENDAS
Student Responsibility:
"tudents will need to #ring their $Ds to class every day. "tudents are responsi#le for keeping up with
ho!ework assign!ents% unfinished class work that needs to #e co!pleted as ho!ework% and upco!ing
tests/pro&ect dates.
$Ds are used as restroo! pass/hall pass% and will #e needed for lunch as well.
$f a student loses an $D s/he will #e charged '(.)) for a replace!ent.
Parent Responsibility:
Please check your childs ho!ework folder nightly so you are aware of all ho!ework assign!ents%
unfinished class work that needs to #e co!pleted as ho!ework% and upco!ing tests/pro&ect dates. $f your
childs agenda is #lank% then they arent doing their &o# as a student and utili*ing their agenda correctly.

+nless otherwise noted in a teachers specific directions% the following heading should #e placed in the
upper right hand corner on all assign!ents that will #e turned in to a teacher:

STUDENT ABSENCES
We re1uest that you do not ask for class work/ho!ework prior to any a#sence as we lesson plan to !eet
the needs of the students and we cannot always predict exactly how !uch of a lesson will #e covered on
any one day.
+pon returning fro! any a#sence% it is each students responsi#ility to o#tain class work and ho!ework% as
well as arrange any test !ake ups with each of their teachers.

GRADING PRACTICES
.ll class work and ho!ework should #e co!pleted in a ti!ely !anner. 2o!ework/practice !ay receive a
3P4 for co!pletion or !arked as late or !issing work in the grade #ook. /ate work !ay #e accepted at
the teachers discretion within 5 days of the assign!ent due date or return fro! a#sence.
$f a student is !issing !ore than 6 assign!ents in a 1uarter a 7needs i!prove!ent8 3-4 will #e indicated
under 7effort8 on the report card. .n 7-8 on the report card will prevent a student fro! earning 2onor
9oll or Principals /ist for that 1uarter.
"tudents !ay not opt:out of assign!ents% pro&ects% or assess!ents. .ny !issing pro&ects or assess!ents
!ay receive a score of *ero.

CHARACTER CARDS
3Aharacter cards represent a structured #ehavior progra! designed for !ost students. <ach
teacher/ad!inistrator has the right to use his/her professional &udg!ent to !odify this plan for
individual students as needed.4
<ach 1uarter% all sixth grade students will receive a character card and are expected to have it in their
possession during the school day.
Teachers will use the positive side of the character card to record student character that is a#ove and
#eyond expected #ehavior.
Parents are strongly urged to review their childs character card daily.
Dis"iplinary Pro"edures
.fter #eing seated in a classroo!% a student will place their character card positive side up on the aisle
side of the upper corner of their desk.
"tep B: $f a student displays an infraction of the character traits% then they !ay receive a ver#al
warning or an i!!ediate infraction depending on the nature of the #ehavior. $f a ver#al warning is
given% the student will turn their card over so the infraction side is face up on their desk.
"tep 5: $f after receiving a ver#al warning a student continues displaying infractions in character% then
the teacher will record an infraction on the students character card.

Physical or ver#al aggression% theft% vandalis!% threatening acts% fighting% or any infraction listed in the
"tudent 9ights and 9esponsi#ilities 2and#ook 3which can #e found on the West Wings we#site4 will

warrant i!!ediate conse1uences in the for! of an office referral or teacher issued afterschool
detention.
.ny student )#o loses t#eir "#ara"ter "ard )ill #a/e it repla"ed )it# a )#ite "#ara"ter "ard and will
#e exe!pt fro! participating in the Aharacter Aard Cuarterly Aele#ration. $f the student finds their
character card% then it is their responsi#ility to #ring #oth the white character card and their original
character card to their ho!eroo! teacher. The ho!eroo! teacher will transfer all positives and
infractions onto the original character card and the student will receive an infraction in the area of
7prepares for class.8
Teachers will use the character cards when co!pleting the student conduct portion of the 1uarterly
report cards. "tudent conduct areas listed on the infraction side of the character card align with the
conduct areas listed in the Deer Dalley +nified Districts Pro!otion:9etention:.ssess!ent Grading
2and#ook% as well as the conduct areas listed on the 1uarterly report cards. .ny student receiving nine
364 or !ore infractions% an afterschool detention% or a suspension during the 1uarter in any of the student
conduct areas will receive an 7E8 indicating need for i!prove!ent on their 1uarterly report card. Please
find explanations for each of the conduct areas #elow:
