Pop
Pros This genre is very popular and there is a huge variety of magazines that i
could use for inspiration for my own.
- The main target audience of pop magazines is young white teenage
females, there are many people I could use for my cover which fits into
the conventions of the magazine.
Cons The culture of pop music can be confusing, as I do not understand it as
well as others, there would be no point basing a magazine around it.
- Some things I write may be negatively biased as I am not a big fan of pop
music.
Rock
Pros This genre is widespread, there is a variety of magazines, very famous
articles, for me to get inspiration from and write about.
- There are many rock icons throughout time for me to base around my
magazine.
Cons As I dislike rock music, things I write may be very negatively biased.
- I know nothing of rock culture; this makes it pointless to base a magazine
around.
Alternative
Pros This is a sub-culture I know most about, making it easy for me to base
my magazine around and stick to the magazine conventions.
- The layout of an alternative magazine is not overly-complicated, making
it not too hard to replicate.
Cons The audience for Alternative music is not as big as other sub-genres,
even though it is growing.
- There are not many Alternative music magazines for me to gain
inspiration from.
