9.1 Properties of Acidic, Alkaline and Neutral.

A solution may be acid, alkali or neutral.

Acidic solution will change blue litmus paper into red.

Examples of acidic substances in our daily life are pineapples,


oranges, vinegar, tea and lemons.

An acidic substance has a sour taste.

Alkaline solution will change red litmus paper into blue.

Examples of alkaline substances in our daily life are soap,


shampoo, milk of magnesia and toothpaste.

An alkaline substance has a bitter taste.

Acids and alkalis only show their properties in the presence of


water.

Neutral solution will not have any effect on litmus paper.

Examples of neutral substances are pure water, coconut oil,


sugar and honey.
