Highlights of RBI first Bi-monthly Monetary Policy statement 2014-15 announced
on 1 April 2014:
+ Kept the policy repo rate unchanged at 8.0%.
+ The repo rate and the rate at which RBI lends money to banks remained at 8 per cent.
+ Cash reserve ratio also remain unchanged at 4%.
+ The economic growth of country slipped to a decade-low of 4.5 per cent in 2012-13
and is estimated at 4.9 per cent in the current financial year 2013-14.
Recent RBI Important Steps:
+ The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) directed banks not to impose financial penalty on the
consumers in case of non-maintenance of minimum balance in their saving accounts.
+ RBI also directed banks to limit the liability of customers in electronic banking
transactions in cases where banks fail to prove customer negligence.
+ RBI also instructed banks to allow borrowers to prepay floating rate term loans without
any penalty.
RBI approved banking licences to IDFC Ltd and Bandhan financial services: RBI
has granted in-principle approvals to IDFC Ltd and Bandhan Financial Services Pvt Ltd
to start new banks in India.
