Photo Journal for Social/Emotional Support Strategies (Created in CHDV 210)
I can guide children in certain situations which includes knowing when the children are capable of
problem-solving on their own.
I can structure my activities and play based on where the children are developmentally.

**Growth: Please list how your knowledge and skills listed above, have grown as a result of your student
teaching experiences.

Every day in the classroom, I have improved in my use of guidance scenarios. This is because I have
built relationships with the children and have been able to get them to communicate their feelings to
each other.
My confidence has grown in stopping certain conflicts from the different experiences I have had with
the children.

I-messages and redirection have now become part of my every-day vocabulary when working with the
children.

**Beliefs: How has completing the above assignments and your student teaching influenced your beliefs about
what constitutes appropriate guidance strategies and promoting the positive social emotional growth of
children?

The guidance scenarios have shaped my beliefs that childrens feelings should be taken into
consideration when it comes to guidance, in other words, when it comes to punishing children in a child
development program it is better to use guidance strategies that will boost childrens self-esteem than
discourage them.
The photo journal has continued to shape my belief to my previous statement and provides examples of
what guidance strategies I have put to use.

**Future Growth & Next Steps: Think about your future teaching, list three goals to help you improve
upon your existing knowledge and skills and your teaching.

The more I engage in these guidance scenarios in the classroom the more I hope I can use these skills
that pertains to a specific child and situation.
I will also continue to work on my interactions and build relationships with children to ensure that I am
supporting their social/emotional and cognitive growth.
I will continue to look for the areas children need to develop to ensure they gain the best learning
experiences possible.

Identify how you will achieve each of these three goals. Be specific. For instance, will you enroll in a
course? If so, what course? Will you read a book? What book?
I will continue to expand my knowledge by keeping up with the latest text materials that relate to guidance
in young children in an early childhood program. I can also find text materials that relate to building better
relationships with children in a preschool setting.
