Sigma Phi Lambda, a Christian organization at Texas State University, is raising over $2,000 for their annual Presence event held each spring. Presence features free food, t-shirts, worship music, a DJ, and a message. This year's goal is $2,000 to reach more students on campus. The group's president expects they may raise even more than their goal since membership has grown to over 100 students. Their largest fundraiser is a silent auction during Family Day where families bid on gift baskets. The funds raised will go towards the DJ, food, and a live band for Presence, while the t-shirts are donated by members.

SAN MARCOS, Texas-- Sigma Phi Lambda, a Christian organization at Texas State is set to raise more than $2,000 for an annual campus event in the spring. The event is called Presence, and it is held every spring at Sewell Park with free food, T- shirts, worship, DJ and a message. This year Sigma Phi Lambda has set a goal of $2,000 in hopes of reaching more people on the university campus. Taylor Polanco, the organizations president, says this year is going to be big. We set our goal at $2,000 and I would not be surprised if we got even more than that, Polanco said. We have over 100 members this year and we are expecting even more in the spring. This means more people donating and raising money for our cause. The biggest fundraising event Sigma Phi Lambda puts on is a silent auction during Family Day. The silent auction includes different gift baskets ranging in value. The families of the members bid on the baskets and all the proceeds go towards Presence. The funds raised for Presence 2015 will cover the DJ, food, and the live band. The free T- shirts, are donated by the members themselves. Allison Lair, senior in Sigma Phi Lambda has been raising funds for Presence every year for the past three years. This spring will be her final year. I love the fact that we get to give away t shirts that we purchased. It really exemplifies what we stand for, Lair said. Also, everyone loves free shirts! Sigma Phi Lambdas purpose is to show Christs love to the students of Texas State. The exact day of Presence is still being decided but it usually happens sometime in late March or early April.
