The Second Annual KU Food Drive is taking place throughout the month of October to benefit students at the University of Kansas and those in Douglas County. Blue donation bins will be placed around campus for students to deposit non-perishable food items, which will then be given to the Just Food food bank in Lawrence. Several events are also scheduled this month to raise awareness about hunger, including cooking sessions, documentary screenings, and a discussion with a food justice activist.

Second Annual KU Food Drive Taking Place in October
LAWRENCE The University of Kansas campus food drive will take place throughout the month of October, in order to benefit students at the University of Kansas as well as around all of Douglas County. The drive is being run in conjunction with KU Hunger Awareness Month. The food drive will have blue bins for donations located around the university campus for the entire month. Students are encouraged to deposit non-perishable food items in donation bins. The food donations will be given to the Just Food food bank of Lawrence. We try to create simple entry points so that students can help their classmates, said Kevin Lee, a journalism advisor at KU and event organizer for the KU food drive and Hunger Awareness Month. There are several events taking place throughout the month to complement the campus food drive. These include a cooking session, a documentary screening followed by a discussion of hunger in the United States, and also a session with food justice activist from New York, Tanya Fields. For a list of locations of food donation bins, visit sustain.ku.edu/hunger. Food donations will be accepted on campus through October 31. ###
