Fluidpressurescanbemeasuredwithreferencetoanyarbitrarydatum.Thecommondatumare
1. Absolutezeropressure.
2. Localatmosphericpressure
When absolute zero (complete vacuum) is used as a datum, the pressure difference is called an absolute
pressure,Pabs.
When the pressure difference is measured either above or below local atmospheric pressure, P local , as a
datum,itiscalledthegaugepressure.Localatmosphericpressurecanbemeasuredbymercurybarometer.
Atsealevel,undernormalconditions,theatmosphericpressureisapproximately101.043kPa.
