W506 Professional Development Plan

Audience: All current faculty of my school
Presentation: This PD will be presented to the faculty as part of a weekly morning meeting.
My school has weekly faculty meetings designed for this purpose.
Tools to share: OneNote, Symbaloo
Reason for sharing these tools: In each of my classes, my students tend to have difficulty with
collaboration when completing group projects. I would like to demonstrate an easy-to-use tool
that teachers and students can use to improve communication and collaboration, both in school
working together, and outside school when they may not be able to meet in person.
What my audience will gain from my sharing: I would like my audience to understand that
students need to learn about methods that can make collaboration easier. By understanding some
of the tools available, and understanding how to use them, they can teach these to their students.
Adult Learning Theory: This professional development will support the principles of adult
learning theory. I want use the experiences of my colleagues to show that collaboration, both
with their students and between their students, is an important part of student success. As we
migrate more technology into the classroom, I want to provide tools that can make the migration
easier. By demonstrating my knowledge of these tools and discussing how I use them, I can
show the practicality of these tools. I will , of course, show the proper respect that my
colleagues deserve with their vast years of experience.
What would I like this PD to accomplish? Ultimately I would like each teacher to find a
favorite collaboration tool and apply it to group activities they assign in their classes. When
students become familiar with using certain tools and use them regularly, they are more likely to
continue to use them in the future or find other tools that will work better for their needs.
