Life and history

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A. On 8 th July,


1906.
He graduated in philology from Harvard University
in 1930.
He studied architecture at Harvard from 1940 till
1943, with
Walter Gropius. He practiced architecture in
Cambridge till 1946.
He worked with Richard Foster from 1964 till 1967.
He also worked with John Burgee from 1967 until
his retirement.
He collaborated with Mies Vander Rohe for the
most superb skyscraper in North-America-the
Seagram building in New York, in 1958.

One of the low walnut cabinets contain kitchen


equipments.
The red brick floor and cylindrical tower are waxed to
bring out a cold purple overtone.
The steel is painted grey,steps and railing are of white
granite.
It is one of the worlds most beautiful yet least
functional houses.
It was never envisioned as a home to live-in but a lifestyle stage to live with.
In the interior, the carpet in the living room gives a
strong edge definition of the horizontal plane making its
field very distinct.

13,000 tonnes of granite is used in this building.
In this building bottom is inspired by renaissance and top is
inspired by chippendale architecture.

DECONSTRUCTIVIST ARCHITECTURE

THERE is CLARITY IN FORM,GOOD ACCESIBILITY,AND


MONUMENTALITY.
EASE OF ORIENTATION WAS PRIME CONCERN.
There is EFFORTLESS TRANSITION FROM STORAGE TO EXHIBIT
ROOM.
There is EASE OF ACCESS TO TOILETS RESTAURANT, SHOPS ,
THEATRE etc.
ACCESS FROM NORTH AND SOUTH are OUTSIDE CONTROL POINTS.
CEREMONICAL SOUTH ENTRANCE IS ON UPPER LEVEL.
MAIN ENTRANCE is the HIGHEST Element and is on MONUMENTAL
SCALE.
EXHIBITION AREAS were DIVIDED INTO 12 SEPARATE PODS
EACH POD WAS SUBDIVIDED INTO SMALL GROUPINGS AROUND
THE OUTSIDE AND GREAT CENTRED GALLERY.

EXTERIOR IS A GROUPING OF LARGE AND MEDIUM SIZED


ELLIPTICAL OVOID STRUCTURES CONNECTED AT LOWER
LEVEL BY MEANDERING WALL.
SHOPS,RESTAURANTS,AND TOILETS WERE NEAR EXHIBIT
ROOMS.
PATHWAY FROM FRONT DOOR WAS NEARLY STRAIGHT TO
FACILITATE ORIENTATION OF EACH POD.
WALL SURFACES WERE CLADED IN KOREAN GRANITE.
ITS LOBBY HAS A HEIGHT OF 37METRE WHICH IS EQUALANT
TO PANTHEON.
EACH GALLERY IS A TWO-STORIED ELLIPTICAL VOLUME.

EXPRESSIONS IN ESPECIALLY,CLASSICAL INDIAN
DANCING AND TO PARTICIPATE VISUALLY IN THE
PERFORMANCE.
A REVOLVING STAGE HAS BEEN PROVIDED FOR
CHANGE OF SETS IN A DRAMA PERFORMANCE.
