PROJECTILE MOTION

DEFINATION

Projectile motion is a form of motion in which an object or particle (called a

projectile) is thrown near the earth's surface, and it moves along a curved
path under the action of gravity only. The only force of significance that acts
on the object is gravity, which acts downward to cause a downward
acceleration.

VERTICAL PROJECTION:

The motion of the trajectory in which it is thrown upward (at 90 Degrees) and
covers 0 range and is under the influence of only gravity.

The height of the projectile can be calculated by:

The range of the projectile can be calculated by:

The time of flight:

Calculating initial velocity in x and y components:

U Sin Angle

Angle
U Cos angle
ON X COMPONENT:

Velocity is constant.
Acceleration is zero
Equal distance is covered in equal intervals of time.

ON Y COMPONENT:

Velocity is reducing
The acceleration is constant -9.81 m/s2

Some awful conditions:

The cannon ball is fired from a cliff with initial velocity of 100 m/s under the
influence of gravity. The cliff is approximately 15 m high and air resistance is
negotiable.
1. Calculate the range, maximum height and time period when the angle
at which the cannon is fired is at 0 degree to the horizontal axis.
2. Calculate the range, maximum height and time period when the angle
at which the cannon is fired is at 33 degree to the horizontal axis.
3. Calculate the range, maximum height and time period when the angle
at which the cannon is fired is at 90 degree to the horizontal axis.
