Greetings MPS UTP Educators:

The Metro State Urban Teacher Program has been asked by MCTC and Minneapolis
Public Schools to make a presentation Why Teach in Urban Schools? at a Future
Teachers Conference next Saturday, March 7. Im writing to see if youd like to be
part of a panel of UTP alumni and current students who know what its like to work
in MPS and prepare to be a teacher.
The largest group of some 180 anticipated participants at the conference will be
paraprofessionals who are working in MPS already and want to earn their teaching
license. If you can participate, wed ask you to give your 2-3 minute answer to the
central question stated above and answer questions that may come from the
audience.
If you are not already committed for next Saturday morning, I hope you can join us.
It will be a good opportunity to give back, inspire others, share your story, add to
your professional accomplishments, and become better known in the district (you
never know who is watching/listening).
The conference is at Minneapolis Community & Technical College on Saturday,
March 7 and our breakout sessions are from 10-10:50 and 11-11:50. You could
come to either or both sessions to say a few words.
Also, from 1-2pm participants will have the opportunity to learn about Metro States
Urban Teacher Program, and you would be very welcome to come to that and tell
them about your experience in the UTP. (By the way, last week we just got approval
for our Masters in Urban Education with tracks for ESL, SPED and Curriculum,
Pedagogy & Schooling.)
I look forward to hearing from you. If you know of others connected to the UTP who
may be interested in joining us (I know there are many), please forward this
invitation.
Thanks,
Paul
