Pepe Martinez for National Undergraduate Representative

Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers

Pepe Martinez has been a proven leader in his university campus, El Paso Hispanic community, and the
Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers. He possesses the leadership and character to advance forward
such a great organization to new levels by always emphasizing in their membership career development
needs. Through many opportunities and experiences, Pepe has acquired the aptitude and skills to bring an
innovative and positive impact to SHPE to continuously be the Premier Source Organization for Hispanic
STEM Talent.

Goals:

1. Increase communication among Student Chapters, Professional Chapters and Corporate through an
innovative approach.
2. Re-develop the current Jr. Chapter Program Curriculum and Outreach Engagement
3. Improve our relationship and collaboration with other STEM Minority Organizations

Through these goals, he envisions a revitalized SHPE that possess a stronger foundation in providing top-
notch opportunities for Hispanic STEM students and access to supporting tools and resources to empower
their chapters’ needs to continuously impact rising Hispanic STEM leaders.

Pepe Martinez is currently a Senior in Industrial Engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP).
While at UTEP, he served in the Student Government Association as the Engineering Collegiate Senator,
representing more than 3,000 students and introducing new programs that provided students direct access to
Corporate Engagement and pre-professional experiences. In addition to that, Martinez has shown great
devotion and commitment to the SHPE UTEP Student Chapter and has become a renowned leader in his
community. Pepe’s first accomplishment as a leader was being part of the founding board of directors for the
first SHPE Jr. Chapter in El Paso, Texas. Martinez has been a SHPE member for 6 years and has proven his
success and development as a leader. He has been a strong advocate for Hispanics in STEM and for the
professional development of such community. Pepe Martinez has served different roles for the UTEP Chapter.
Including Vice President for Internal Affairs, Chapter Vice President and Chapter President for the 13-14 term.
During his tenure as President, Martinez established 6 new SHPE Jr. Chapters making an impact in the lives of
nearly 300 students who now pursue a career in STEM. Martinez recently serves as the Region V SHPE Jr.
Representative and has implemented innovative ideas that have improved the SHPE Pipeline.

Lastly, Pepe Martinez is currently an Operations Management Division - Analyst Intern and great asset for the
prestigious financial firm, Goldman Sachs. Prior internship experience includes a 9-month co-op as an
Engineering Specialist Intern with TOYOTA Motor Manufacturing & Engineering and research assistant for the
Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Rochester.
