Springing into track & field

Scotty sophomore Leinie Hughes is one of approximately 50 GHS athletes

turning out for the first day of track & field practice. Its a pretty good turnout,
says Scotty Assistant Coach Wade Nelson, weve got some good athletes.
Coach Nelson went on to say that in his 15 years of helping with the program, this
is just the second time that the Scotties have been able to hold their first week
of practice outdoors. We hope the weather holds so we can get our first meet
in, he added. That would be the Glasgow Invitational on Saturday, March 28th.

Montana Firefighters Truck,Gear Stolen

50 pounds of
gear. One great
cause. Thats what
a husband-wife
firefighting team
from
Montana
was training for in Seattle, Washington.
Their reward? Their pickup truck and firefighting
equipment stolen by thieves in Seattle.
Seeley Lake Fire Captain Shawn Ellinghouse and
his wife Kristy Lee, a firefighter and teacher at the
Potomac School, were in Seattle for the Scott Firefighter
Stair Climb to benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society when this happened:
Firefighters in town for charity event
lose truck, $30k in gear to thieves
On Monday morning, they woke to find their 2007
Toyota Tundra stolen from the secured hotel parking garage.

It was a gated parking garage, Ellinghouse said. We
dont know how they got in.

Inside the truck was as much as $30,000 worth of
firefighting gear and personal effects, Ellinghouse said,
including two sets of air bottles, suits, pillows and masks.

Thats the story from Q13 Fox News in Seattle.

Kristy and Shawn are now back home in Montana, after
being forced to drive back to Montana in a rental car.
As of Tuesday morning, Shawn was scrambling to get
work done and return a rental vehicle, while Kristy was
headed back to work at Potomac School.
If you have any friends in the Seattle area, please
help spread the word. Q13 added this description:
Ellinghouses truck is a blue 2007 Toyota Tundra with
Montana Licence Plate AJT-754.

Changes made to Feda Scholarship

Two changes to the application
requirements for the Feda Scholarship
for the Trades become effective with
this springs applications, Ken Oster
announced this week. He chairs the
Valley County Community Foundation,
which administers the scholarship.
Remaining unchanged is the scholarship
award to a Valley County high school
senior graduating in 2015 with plans to
attend a trade school.
The first change allows previous
recipients to apply for a second
scholarship, providing they have
successfully completed one semester
of study. The second adds computer
technology and criminal justice to the
list of potential study.
All applicants must be residents
of Valley County. First-time applicants
must be graduating from a Valley
County high school, receiving a home
school certificate or a GED and pursuing
a post-secondary education in the
trades. Applicable course work includes

but is not limited to plumbing,

electrical, drafting, mechanics, welding,
carpentry, medical technology and
this years additions. Past scholarship
recipients studied aviation mechanics,
electrical technology, computer systems
technology and diesel mechanics.
Gerry and Audrey Feda of Glasgow
established the scholarship with the
VCCF in 2007. Since that time, seven
scholarships have been awarded.

Applications will be accepted through
April 17. All Valley County high schools
have information on the scholarship
requirements and applications. They are
also available on the VCCF website: www.
valleycountycf.net.
VCCF will accept only paper
copies of the applications. They must
be postmarked by the deadline and late
or incomplete applications will not be
considered. Sam Waters of Glasgow
chairs the scholarship committee for
the VCCF. Contact him at 228-8231 for
more information.
