EXPERIMENT 3

TITLE

: FIXED END MOMENT FOR A FIXED END BEAM

OBJECTIVES : To determine the fixed end moment of a fixed end beam.

APPARATUS
1. Two supports that can measure moment. (Refer to attachment)
2. A steel beam.
3. A set of weights.

PROCEDURE
1. The attachment for experimental was referred and set up.
2. The two supports are fixed tightly to the base with the distant between the
equals to the span of the beam.
3. The load cell is checked properly secured to the pivoting plate.
4. The ends of the beam are placed between the clamping plates of the
supports and the screws were tightened and the beam is fixed.
5. The load hanger is clipped at the position where the beam is to be loaded.
6. The load cell is connected from the support pier to the display unit, the load
cell was occupied one terminal on the display.
7. The display is switched on and began with channel 1. The initial reading is
recorded for each channel.
8. A suitable load is placed on the load hanger and the reading of each load cell
is recorded.
9. The load on the load hanger is increased and the pier reaction is recorded.
