ARIKA WIRA BIN KARIM/7 PISMP TESL 1 JANUARY 2012 INTAKE

Problem statement

Students have difficulties in spelling out words in the classroom due to lack of
exercises.

Objective

To help students improve their ability in spelling words by using pairing cards game.

Research question

Can pairing cards game improve students ability to spell words?

Intervention
1. Teacher pastes 10 pairing cards on the board.
2. Teacher pastes cards indicating numbers at the top of each card.
3. Teacher calls one representative from one group.
4. The pupil will call one number which represent a card. For example, the pupil will call out
card number 1. If the next card the pupil calls is the same as the previous one, the pupil
will need to come up with one adjective describing the fruit.
5. Correct answer will be awarded with 1 point. The picked cards are removed from the
board.
6. Once all the cards are removed from the board, teacher will reposition the cards for
second round.
7. The winner of the game is the group with the most points awarded.
Data collection method

Observation Teacher observes pupils in the class and identify the words that they
have difficulties to spell. Teacher also records teaching sessions especially the

sessions with the intervention being carried out.


Questionnaire teacher hands out questionnaire to investigate the rate of success of

the intervention method.


Document analysis teacher analyses pupils work before and after intervention.
