Diodes And their Characteristics

Aim: Study of I-V characteristics of the PN junction diode and Zenor diode. Determine the dynamic
resistance above and below the knee point from I-V characteristic. Find out the breakdown voltage
for given zenor diode.
Apparatus: DC Power Supply (0-10V), Components: PN junction diode, Zenor diode, R=100 ,
multimeters for measuring currents and voltage.
Objectives: The purpose of this experiment is to have some knowledge about diodes and its related
parameters: Knee point, dynamic resistance, breakdown voltage etc...
Circuit:

Similarly connect the diode for reverse bias and take the observations, and also zenor diode.
Theory:

Write the basic theory of junction diode band diagram.

Elaborate zenor diode and its characteristics.

Observation Table: (set the increment of the observations to get better I-V curve. In all cases)
Vi (v) If (mA) Vf (v)

Vi (v) Ir (A) Vr (v)

Discussion: write in your own way from your observation about diode characteristics and
breakdown effect.
