LIGHTING TERMS

Luminous Flux: It is the rate at which luminous energy is incident on a 1 m2 surface 1

m away from an isotropic point source of 1 candela intensity. It is measured in Lumen
(lm).

Illuminance: It is a density of luminous flux incident on the surface. It is measured in

lux (lm/m2)

Luminous efficacy: It is the ratio of light output to power input measured in lumen
/watt. The higher the efficacy, the more energy efficient the lamp or the lighting
system will be.

Colour Rendering: Colour rendering is a measure of the ability of the light source to
show colours. It is measured in terms of Colour Rendering Index (CRI). CRI will
becoming less when going out of white color.
CRI of the incandescent lamp = 100

Corrected Colour Temperature (CCT): It is the absolute temperature of a black body at

which the closest possible match with the given radiator (source) is obtained.

The colour temperature are as follows:

Warm toned light ~3000 K,

White natural light ~ 4000 K and
Daylight ~ 5000 K
