In cases where the slab is supported on aH four sides and the ratio of length to
width is larger than 2 (Fig. 6.3), the short direction ofthe slab is stiffer than the
long one. In 8uch a case, the slab carries the load in its short direction and aets as
a one-way slab. Accordingly, only the beams (AB and CD) of long spans
support the loads from the slab.
