Hannah June

Hannahs salary is A$30,877, about the same as the average far

hand (PayScale, 2014). According to the taxable income rates 20122013 we can see that Hannahs income tax adds up to A$2,408
(ASIC, 2014). Neither Hannah nor her father needs to pay a
Medicare levy for Hannah as she is under the age of 21 (Australian
Government, 2013); overall after tax Hannah has left over
A$27,851. Hannah also needed a tax file number to hand in to her
employer so he could work out how much tax to withhold from her
wages.
The TFN also helps Hannah her lodge a tax return, and so she
applied for one with the help of her school career coordinator. This
process of the employer deducting tax from Hannahs wages is
called pay as you go withholding. At first Charles (Hannahs
employer) offered to pay in cash, however Hannah would have to
constantly make sure her employer was making the right deductions
with her pay slips and so realised it was just easier being paid to a
bank account with PAYG withholding (Australian Government, 2013).
MyTax is the ATOs new efficient online way for people who have
simple tax affairs to lodge their tax returns. MyTax creates a tax
return for you with the information provided from you employer and
last years tax return. All Hannah has to do is review the tax return;
fill in the missing gaps or anything she wants to add and then easily
submit it online (Australian Government, 2014).
