Name of Artifact: Understanding by Design Lesson Plan
Date: November 2014
Course: EDUC 250: Educational Psychology

Brief Description:
For this lesson plan, I decided to address the topic of counting and money
for first grade. To meet the selected state standard, the students must choose the
correct amount of pennies, nickels, and dimes by counting and adding to reach a
variety of given amounts/goals. In order to practice and meet this goal, my lesson
plan details how the students will purchase items from a pretend supermarket set
up in a section of the classroom.

Rationale:
To document my understanding of Planning for Instruction, I have selected
to include my Understanding by Design Lesson Plan because it demonstrates my
competency to use a range of resources and experiences to aid learners in pursuing
challenging goals. Within the documentation and implementation of this lesson, the
teacher does take the time to demonstrate the activity to the learners. It is also
detailed how the needs of students with exceptionalities can be met through
differentiated instruction of this lesson.
