Field Hockey/ Advanced Graphic
Organizer
Grade: 6th

Objective:
1.
Students will be able to pass the ball in a straight line on the floor over a short distance using the right speed and
acceleration to their partner to receive the ball under control.
2.
Students will be able to receive a ball from a partner stationary and in motion, then quickly pass the ball back to their partner
or teammate.
3.
Students will be able to tell me in detail both the safe and the unsafe behavior when playing as well as using a field hockey
stick.
4.
Students will be able to fill out an advanced graphic organizer at the end of class.

Safety: Reinforce the importance of keeping your head up and to avoid colliding into other students. Designate a safe playing area
large enough for movements in general space. Use tennis balls instead of actual field hockey balls.
Lesson Structure and Progressions:
1. Intro: Discuss basics of Field hockey and dribbling as well as passing
2. Task 1- Partner Passing with rolling ball out.
Task 2- Mini game.
Task 3- Dribbling and stopping.
Task 4- Games.
3. Closure: Advanced Graphic Organizer
Differentiation: There will be translations of any handouts for all students to learn. I will demonstrate each drill both orally and
verbally so students see the different ways to learn. Different sized balls and sticks will be used for all students.

Task 4: Game
Split the 12 students up
into 4 teams of 3. Two
separate games will be
going on at one and then
when I blow the whistle;
teams will swap so they
play against different
opponents. 1 point will
be awarded for every
time a player on your
team passes the ball into
the goal. This game will
bring in all the concepts
from dribbling and
stopping to passing and
receiving that we have
went over for a few
weeks.

Graphic Organizer. Now
that the period is almost
to a close, I will bring
the students together to
fill out the advanced
graphic organizer. The
