The newsletter provides updates on various subjects and activities for grades 3 and 4. In math, students are working on time and temperature, including reading analog clocks and relating units of time. A science workshop on simple machines will be held on May 14th. Students have also been studying structures, pulleys, and gears in science. In literacy, students have written different forms of poetry each week and are now working on procedures. Important upcoming dates include a school mass, swim trips, and field trips to Upper Canada Village and Queen's University.

Math-We are working on time and temperature. At home you can work with your child on reading analog clocks to the nearest 5 minutes for Grade 3 or the nearest minute for Grade 4. Also, you can practice relating units of time (for example, there are 60 minutes in an hour, or other How many ____ in a ___? questions) and discuss how much time has passed during activities (for example, we jumped on the trampoline from 4:30 to 4:36 p.m., so we jumped for 6 minutes). Science-We have Queens engineers visiting on May 14th to do interactive activities about simple machines. Some students may build a Rube Goldberg machine after the workshop (more information to follow). Also in science, we are studying structures (Grade 3) and pulleys and gears (Grade 4). Literacy- The students have worked on different forms of poetry each week, including list poems, haiku, and cinquain. This week, we are working on writing procedures and reviewing past forms. Physical Education- We have been investigating soccer techniques to use in our games, and practicing for track and field.
What is cool about school right now?
