The Fairfax Agriculture Department and FFA Chapter hosted their second annual Elementary Ag Day. Students learned about agriculture through activities like planting soybeans and making plastic. They also learned gun safety from the deputy and had a chance to see and pet baby animals. It was considered a success with help from University Extension, corn and soybean associations, and others who shared their knowledge on topics like animal health, safety, and conservation.

Second annual Elementary
Ag Day was a success by Dakota Allen, Chapter Reporter The Fairfax Agriculture Department and the Fairfax FFA Chapter hosted their second annual Ag Day on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at the Fairfax Memorial Football Field during the first half of the day. Elementary students learned important aspects of agriculture, including planting soybeans with the Missouri Soybean Association and making plastic with the Missouri Corn Growers. The following people helped us by participating and sharing their knowledge and wisdom: Amie Schleicher, University Extension Animals Health & Safety; Bob
Kelly, University Extension,
PTO Safety; Jim Crawford, University Extension, Lawn Mower Safety; Atchison County Sheriffs Department, Gun Safety; Nancy Hurst, Missouri Corn Growers; Trina Stumpe, Missouri Soybean Association; and Jim Pierson, Missouri Department of Conservation, Chain Saw Safety. The FFA used panels supplied by Ag Choice, and Dan Smith and family loaned us some of their livestock for the morning. There are many aspects of agriculture and we hope that all of those involved took away knowledge they can apply at some point in their life.
