MAGLEV
DRIVING WITHOUT
WHEELS,
FLYING WITHOUT WINGS" .

INTRODUCTION

TRAINS THAT FLY ON AIR

What is Maglev?

Levitation By Attraction:

In order for the train

float,there must be two
coils.The top coil is installed
in the train and the bottom
coil is placed in the track
.Attraction is caused by
having the currents within
each of the circuits ,
traveling in the same
direction

Propulsion By Repulsion:

Similar poles of a magnet repel

each other . In order for the train
to float , there must be two coils.
The top coil is placed within the
train and the bottom coil is placed
on the track . The current in the
top circuit travels in the opposite
direction of the current wrt bottom
coil , resulting in the repulsion
between two coils.

Principle Of Maglev:

In this,there are forces

which push the
superconducting
magnet upwards
direction and ones
which pull them
simultaneously, thereby
levitating the Maglev
vehicle.

Principle of Lateral Guidance:

An electric current
induced ,resulting in a
repulsive force acting
on the levitation coils of
the side near the
vehicle and attractive
force acting on the
levitation coils of the
side far apart from the
vehicle.

Principle Of Propulsion:

A repulsive force and an

attractive force induced
between the magnets
are used to propel the
vehicle

EMS And EDS Systems:

Electro Dynamic Suspension(EDS):

WORKING OF MAGLEV:

SPEED :
The train can travel at about 510km/h (acc. can go
only up to 200 mph) ie it can cover 30.8 km in
8minutes.

Higher speed then conventional train.

It can accelerate to 200 mph in 3 miles, ideally for

short jumps.

NOISE POLLUTION:

The train makes little

noise because it
does not touch the
track and hence no
mech.wear and tear.
Therefore, all noise
comes from moving
air. This sound is
equivalent to the
noise produced by
city traffic.

Magnetic Field:

The magnetic field

created is low,
therefore there are
no adverse effects

Current projects:

Germany and Japan are first 2 countries in Maglev

research and development area.
Currently maglev systems include Transerapid
(Germany) and High Speed Surface Transport
(Japan).
.Two another systems are under construction in
america
