METHOD STATEMENT FOR FIBER WRAPPING ON

CONCRETE ELEMENTS (DRY APPLICATION)
MATERIALS AND TOOLS TO BE USED
-

Concrete grinder
Vacuum cleaner
Brush
Spatula
Plastic roller
Mixing container
Paddle mixer
Application trowel
Substrate primer
impregnating resin
Fiber wrap

STEPS

Surface Preparation
1. The irregularities such as blow holes or voids on the concrete
surface, must be repaired using a suitable repair mortar.
2. Then the substrate must be prepared mechanically, by using
an abrasive blast cleaning or by grinding to ensure a profiled,
open textured surface without any cement laitance.
3. The external corners and arises must be rounded to a
minimum radius of 20mm, either by grinding or build up with
mortars.
4. All the prepared surfaces should be brushed or air blasted and
vacuumed to achieve as dust free surface.
5. The final surface must be smooth, dry and free of damaged
concrete and any other contaminants as dust, foreign
particles, cement laitance, oil, grease, surface coatings, curing
compounds, waxes and impregnations etc.
Application
1. Cut the fiber fabric to desired dimensions for the installation.
2. Apply substrate primer as per the product specification on the prepared
surface using roller or brush.
3. Apply impregnating resin on the prepared surface using a plastic roller as
per product specifications.
4. Place the pre-cut dry fiber fabric in the required direction onto the
impregnating resin layer.

5. Carefully work the resin into the fiber fabric with the plastic roller, working
parallel to the fiber direction, until the resin is squeezed out between and

through the fiber strand, and it is evenly distributed over the whole fiber
wrap. Make sure the fiber warp is completely wetted with the resin and no
any dry spots and entrapped air bubbles on the fiber wrap.
6. Repeat steps 3-5 on the previously laid wet fiber layer (normally within 60
minutes of the previously applied layer) until the required number of fiber
wraps are done, as per design requirements.
7. Once the full fiber wrap is done, last it for the minimum curing time as per
specifications and the cementitious over lays or coloured coatings to be
applied over if required.
