DETERMINE THE POTENTIAL

AND KINETIC ENERGY OBJECT

What is Kinetic Energy?

KINETIC ENERGY
Definition: Kinetic energy is the energy of
Formula:
motion.

KE

SI Unit :

2
= m vWhere:

Joule (J)

m = mass (kg)
v = velocity (ms-1)

What is Potential Energy?

POTENTIAL ENERGY
Definition : Potential energy is the energy an
object
has because of its condition or
Formula:
position
PE = m g hWhere:
m= mass (kg)
g = gravitational
-1
acceleration
(ms
)
SI Unit :
Joule (J)
h = height (m)

The cat has a POTENTIAL

ENERGY at high position.

An object can have potential and kinetic

energy at the same time.

What is Mechanical Energy?

Law of Conservation of
Mechanical Energy

Principle Experiment
1.Stringing tools like the image below.
2. At the deviation alpha, with a height
h, the ball is released. A motion
happens to B and then the rope broke
from B to C
3. Let it be known with the unknown
quantities of the kinetic energy and
potential energy each bulb, while at
points A, B, and C
Note: For motion B-C applies:

4. Do it again experiment 2 with the first set height h and y. measure

distances x. repeat for height h different and record in a table results
were obtained:
5. Compare the mechanical energy obtained at point A and B based on
the results of experiments conductedCompare the mechanical energy
obtained at point A and B based on the results of experiments conducted

Conclusion
1. The potential energy on an object is directly
proportional to the mass, acceleration of gravity, and the
position of the ball on the ground
2. The kinetic energy on an object is proportional to the
mass, acceleration of gravity, resulting distance squared
the ball, and inversely proportional to four times the
distance of the ball from the ground.
3. An object (ball) has energy due to its position that the
potential energy (when stationary) and kinetic energy
(while moving). Both of these energy when combined
will produce mechanical energy and can be worth as
much if not influenced by external forces. And if the
swing is at the point of equilibrium, the kinetic energy is
equal to zero.
