This!week!we!have!been!involved!in!the!wonderful!world!of!books!with!lots!of!great!
activities.!We!started!on!Monday!with!our!book!parade!in!the!hall!and!despite!the!less!
than!tropical!weather!we!had!an!absolutely!amazing!array!of!characters!on!display.!From!
a!very!brave!Captain!Underpants!to!the!entire!Simpson!clan!we!had!it!all.!It!really!was!
a!fantastic!effort!by!all!the!students!and!their!parents.!A!big!thank!you!goes!out!to!Nikki!
De!Vries!and!Kim!Scadden!for!all!their!preparation!and!organisation!that!have!led!to!this!
fun!filled!week!being!such!a!success.!
!

On!another!note!I!want!to!say!a!huge!well!done!to!Aoife!Maher.!I!was!on!duty!this!week!
and!witnessed!Aoife!pick!up!some!rubbish!(it!wasnt!hers)!and!pop!it!in!the!bin.!This!may!
seem!trivial!but!trust!me!it!happens!a!lot!less!often!than!it!should.!Aofie!had!not!seen!me!
at!all!and!was!surprised!when!I!awarded!her!some!house!points!for!doing!something!that!
to!her!was!no!big!deal!!great!attitude.!This!was!a!fantastic!example!of!upholding!our!
school!values!and!caring!for!our!environment.!If!we!all!do!our!little!bit!it!makes!for!a!
cleaner!and!more!inviting!place!to!be.!

Year!4,!5!and!6!Camp!Volunteer!Ballots!
This!year!our!tamariki!in!Year!4!get!to!experience!a!fantastic!camp!programme!at!Living!
Springs;!the!Year!5!and!6!tamariki!will!have!an!equally!enriched!programme!at!Wainui.!
We!cannot!run!these!camps!without!the!support!of!volunteer!parent!helpers.!This!year!
we!will!be!running!the!camp!volunteer!ballots!early!in!Term!3!for!Yr!4!and!later!in!the!
term!for!Yr!5!and!6.!We!have!had!to!bring!the!ballots!forward!due!to!the!length!of!time!it!
takes!to!complete!the!police!vetting!process!and!changes!to!the!Vulnerable!Childrens!
Act.!!Information!about!camp!and!the!ballot!process!will!be!sent!out!early!in!Term!3.!

On!5 !June!we!tested!our!emergency!text!message!system,!this!system!sends!out!a!
message!in!the!case!of!an!emergency!or!evacuation.!Unfortunately!some!whnau!did!not!
receive!the!text!message!due!to!a!programming!issue!with!our!service!provider.!This!
fault!is!currently!being!fixed!and!we!will!redtest!the!system!in!the!near!future.!If!we!do!
not!have!your!current!mobile!number!please!contact!us!via!the!portal!on!the!home!page!

any!school!closures!due!to!weather.!We!will!endeavour!to!make!a!decision!on!closures!

The!Worry!Bug!
We!are!excited!to!be!hosting!the!launch!of!a!brand!new!resource!to!help!Canterbury!
schools!and!families!support!children!with!anxiety!as!we!recover!from!the!earthquakes.!
The!Worry!Bug!Project!has!been!created!by!clinical!psychologist!Julie!BurgessdManning!
and!teacher!Sarina!Dixon.!!It!consists!of!two!books!!one!for!use!in!the!classroom!and!
one,!Maia!and!The!Worry!Bug!that!is!for!use!at!home.!!Maia!and!The!Worry!Bug!is!
going!to!be!given!out!for!free!to!every!pupil!from!new!entrant!to!Year!4!in!Term!3.!
