Kia!ora!whnau,!
Te!Mahuri!and!our!Wearable!Arts!team!performed!at!the!Cultural!Festival!on!Monday!
evening.!This!group!was!polished,!professional!and!simply!blew!us!away.!For!the!first!
time!long!poi!was!introduced!with!select!senior!pupils!mastering!this!challenging!art,!our!
haka!led!by!Hapene!and!Tawera!was!incredibly!powerful!and!Lucy,!Thesara,!Tayla!and!
Georgia!added!a!new!dimension!to!our!performance.!Thank!you!to!Matua!Thomas,!
Tuahine!Hireke,!Olivia!Hanson,!Jackie!Te!Hae,!Katie!Robinson,!Pani!Butler,!Renee!
Rerekura!and!all!the!whnau!who!supported!this!group!in!preparing!such!a!fantastic!
show.!!!

Another!first!for!St!Albans!School!was!our!involvement!in!the!wearable!arts.!Emma,!
Tanner,!Bella,!Noah!and!Olivia!worked!tirelessly!with!Mrs!Allen!and!their!whnau!to!
construct!these!amazing!pieces!of!wearable!arts!under!the!theme!of!Iconic!
Christchurch.!You!can!see!both!performances!via!our!Facebook!page.!

The!Worry!Bug!Project!!
A!unique!new!resource,!The!Worry!Bug!Project,!is!landing!in!Canterbury!schools,!to!
support!families!and!schools!with!anxiety!as!the!region!recovers!from!the!earthquakes.!
!

The!Worry!Bug!project!consists!of!two!books!Wishes!and!Worries!(for!use!in!
classrooms)!and!Maia!and!The!Worry!Bug!(for!use!at!home)!that!have!been!written!by!
registered!psychologist!Julie!BurgessbManning!and!teacher!Sarina!Dickson!who!are!both!
Christchurch!mothers.!They!have!been!illustrated!by!award!winning!artist!Jenny!Cooper!
and!have!the!support!of!the!Childrens!Commissioner!Dr!Russell!Wills.!
!

Thanks!to!funding!from!the!Canterbury!Community!Trust!and!the!Christchurch!
Earthquake!Appeal!Trust,!the!books!will!be!distributed!for!FREE!to!every!new!entrant!to!
Year!4!class!and!their!students!in!Christchurch!City!and!the!Selwyn!and!Waimakariri!
districts.!You!also!have!an!important!opportunity!to!shape!future!work!with!children!
after!a!natural!disaster.!!Massey!University!are!studying!the!Worry!Bug!Project!and!need!
the!help!of!parents!and!teachers!to!better!understand!how!it!is!for!you,!and!how!the!
project!helped.!!Information!will!come!home!with!the!books!or!visit!
