Bell Work
Every day, students will need to complete the assigned Bell Work. All Bell Work will be posted
on the front board as a part of the agenda. Follow this procedure:
After you have sat in your seat and looked at the agenda, begin working on the Bell
Work.
Bell Work is started before the class bell rings.
You will have about 2-5 minutes to complete the Bell Work.
Complete Bell Work assignment quietly.
Complete the Bell Work independently.
If you finish early, you may read a book of your choice silently.
Taking Attendance
Student Attendance will be done while students are completing their Bell Work assignment. I
will:
Walk around the classroom and check on each student.
Make a connecting comment to each student.
Take attendance while walking around the classroom.
Classroom Procedures
Getting Students Attention
I will say, I need 100% of you and hold up my hand. When students hear this and/or see my
hand in the air, the students will:
Stop what they are doing.
Give me their full attention.
Bathroom Breaks
Students are allowed to use the bathroom or get a drink of water after my lecture portion of class
(unless there is an emergency). Follow this procedure:
Hold up your index finger if you need to use the restroom or get a drink.
When I see your index finger in the air, I will grant permission to use the bathroom or get
a drink.
Write your initials and the time you leave on the bathroom break log on the student-work
desk and take the bathroom pass.
When you come back, record the return time next to your name and return the pass.
If I see that a student is abusing the bathroom break pass procedure, I have the right to take away
that students ability to use the bathroom break pass.
Organization of Desks
Students are responsible for returning the desks to their original place at the end of class.
Returning Papers
I will hand back any papers to the students during the Bell Work time. While handing back
papers, I will make a positive comment to each student about their work.
Misbehavior Notice
When a student violates a rule or guideline, I will silently issue a Guideline Infraction Notice.
This is to serve as a warning to the student. On this form, I will include:
The date and the students name
Checkboxes to indicate my instruction to the student (Please correct your behavior or
Please return to task)
The guideline infraction
Checkbox to indicate if the student needs to see me after class
Space for filling out the results of the student-teacher conference
Student signature line
Checkbox to indicate if the student needs a parent signature
Parent signature line
Emergency Preparedness
I will follow the district and campus policies.
Student Procedures
Turning in Notes and Forms

student-work desk. This is not where schoolwork and homework is turned in. The following
items are to be placed in the Notes from Home basket:
Permission slips
Written note from parent or guardian
Absence excuse
Volunteer form
Classroom Tardiness
Any student who enters the class after the bell rings is tardy. If tardy, follow this procedure:
Walk into class as quietly as possible and take a tardy slip on the student-work desk.
Fill out tardy slip and place in Tardy Slip basket on the student-work desk
Go sit in your assigned seat.
Look at agenda for the day.
Join the activity in progress (the schedule is posted in the agenda).
Turning in Homework
Students are responsible for turning in their homework at the beginning of the class. Students
are to turn in their homework in the appropriate tray designated for their class period.

needs to have a parent signature in the top left corner of the assignment.
One day late = 25% off
Two days late = 50% off
Three days late = 75% off
Four or more days late = no credit
(Follow campus/district policy)
Work in Progress

Instruction Procedures
Note Taking
Students are responsible for their own note taking. In my class, each student must use the
Cornell Note-Taking Method. The students will divide a sheet of note paper into three sections
with the dimensions listed below:
2 inch section from the left side of the page (Reduce)
6 inch section from the right side of the page (Record)
2 inch section at the bottom of the page (Review)
The three sections are:
Reduce Section key points
Record Section notes
Review Section summary and/or questions
Class Discussions
When having class discussions, every student will participate. I will ensure this by using craft
sticks or index cards with the students names on them. During the discussion, I will draw one
stick or index card and call on the student to participate. I will repeat this process until all the
sticks or cards have been drawn. When a student is speaking, everyone must show that person
respect by not interrupting the student and keeping all eyes and attention on the student.
Working in Groups
I will assign the groups and the locations for each group before class. When the students are
working in their group, they are to follow this procedure:
If you have a question, ask your group members.
If your group member asks for help, try your best to help them.
If no one in your group knows an answer and needs help, raise your hand and the
teacher will come to your group to help.
Reading a Textbook
When students read an assigned section in the textbook, students will need to use the SQ4R
process for reading. I will provide worksheets that lay out this method when I assign a reading
from the textbook. The SQ4R method is:
Survey Scan through the reading and gather important content information.
Question Create questions to be answered after surveying the reading.
Read Read the assigned section and take notes and answer your questions.
Recite Put the reading aside and quiz yourself on what you remember.
Review Review your notes and fill in any missing information.
Reflect Mentally think about the information and connect ideas to form a deeper
meaning.
Test/Quiz Taking
Before taking a test, I will write a test agenda on the board that will include:
When the test will take place in the class period
How long the testing period will last
What to begin working on upon completion of the test
Students are to follow this procedure during a test:
Turn OFF all cell phones and put inside backpack.
Have two pencils on desk and other necessary materials (I will list on the test agenda).
Place all other personal materials/items under your seat.
Begin the test when I say it is okay to begin.
Keep your eyes on your own paper.
Do not talk during the test.
If you have a question, raise your hand and I will come to you.
When you finish, turn your test over on your desk.
If you finish early, you may only silently read (not your textbook).
