CATALINA SPA RECREATIONAL WATER

VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT RULES


NOVEMBER 12 -14, 2015
TEAM SIZE: 10 players. Four must be female players. Teams will be allowed to play with
fewer than 10 players, but for each female missing from the court, one male must leave the
court. There should be no delay of game for player replacement except in case of injury or
illness. Players from other teams may not substitute.
SCHEDULE: Recreational teams will play on Friday, November 13th. Start time will be
determined by the number of teams participating. Schedules will be posted prior to the
beginning of the tournament. Additional games will be played Saturday afternoon.
GAMES: Games are played to 15 points. Winning team must win by 2 points. In the event of
a 20-20 tie, the first team to score 21 will win. Teams will be scheduled to start their first game
on a designated court. Teams will change sides after the first game. The team captain is
responsible to get their members ready to play when the referee calls for the serve at the
scheduled game time. Every player will rotate to every position. A plan of rotation will be given
to players closer to tournament time so that everybody rotates in the same manner. Points are
made only while serving.
SERVES: Serve only after the referee announces the score. No flat or fast serves. The
ball must arc over the net. The serve may be either over-hand or underhand, not thrown or
pushed. No two-handed serves. If the ball touches the net and goes over the net, it is a legal
serve. For AM games the serve will be from opposition corners.
LINE JUDGMENTS: A ball hitting the line is in play. Referees call is final.
AT THE NET: NO SPIKING, NO TOUCHING THE NET. Some part of the ball must cross the
net before the opposing team hits it. The player's hands(s) can follow through crossing the net
line. A player's hands, legs or feet may cross UNDER the net; but, they may not touch the net
nor can this action impede the play of the game.
SIDE OUT WILL RESULT FROM: (1) An illegal serve; (2) The ball hitting the water;
(3) Catching, palming, or throwing the ball; (4) Hitting the ball through the net; (5) Touching the
net; or (6) Impeding play while crossing under the net.
DECISIONS OF THE REFEREE AND LINE JUDGES ARE FINAL!!!!
INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE AND UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT WILL NOT BE
TOLERATED!!!!
WATER SHOES ARE TO BE WORN IN THE POOL AREA ONLY!
