Classroom Rules, Expectations, and General Information

Julie W. Jordan
American Literature & Composition
1.
Be prepared for class when you arrive. This means: bring books,
paper/notebooks,
assignments, and writing utensils with you. Students should take their seats
and begin
independent reading as soon as the bell rings.
2.
Follow instructions.
3.
Listen. Excessive talking will not be allowed. No one student has the right to
prevent
the education of another.
4.
Hands to yourself, enough said. My desk and belongings are off limits.
5.
Students are not allowed to have food in class. Water is fine and encouraged.
Drinks
with caps will be tolerated. As long as trash goes where it belongs, we will
have no
problems. Gum be careful with it. Breath mints are always welcome.
6.
Students will not be allowed to sleep in class. It is my duty to do my utmost
for your
success in class. I may wake you up, ask you to stand, contact your parent, or
send in a
discipline report.
7.
Restroom requests should be in emergency situations only. You will have only
three (3)
hall passes per semester. Use them wisely. Once you use your passes, I will
need
medical notification of an illness that requires frequent trips to the restroom.
Unused
passes will be bonus points at the end of the grading period.
8.
Respect the teacher. I am a dedicated professional and I am here to teach the
class. I will
not allow students to be disrespectful to me or to other students in the class.
9.
Assignments should be completed by the due date. Late work will not receive
a grade
higher than 70%. Late work will not be accepted after two weeks. Retests
and makeup
tests will be during Flex or after school. You should schedule makeup tests
promptly. It is the students responsibility to find out missed assignments
after an absence. All assignments turned in to the teacher must be headed
per teacher instructions. Missed vocabulary quizzes will result in the next quiz
counting twice.
10.
Cheating will not be tolerated. Cheating will result in a zero for the
assignment. Anyone
providing homework answers or work will forfeit 50% of grade earned.
