BE WATER WISE

The Water Stewards of Virginia Beach

in conjunction with the Va Beach Master Gardeners and Virginia Cooperative Extension

are pleased to announce a

New Program

for your SCA, Environmental Club, or your classroom

Program Goals:
To educate your students as to the importance of our watersheds and water

resources.
To mark all storm drains on your schools property with official markers supplied by
the City of Virginia Beach which indicate the specific watershed for your school.
To encourage your students to become part of the solution to polluted drain water
and watersheds.
To encourage your students prepare a program to share what they learn with the
other students in the school.

Program Outline:
Several Water Stewards will come to your school and present an informational

program on storm water, what it is and where it goes.

The Water Stewards will guide a discussion with the students on the causes and
consequences of pollutants in the water.
Students will have an interactive experience with the Enviroscape educational tool in
order to visually see the effects of pollutants.
Students will be left with a set of questions to be answered and potential resources
to use to help solve the problem of polluted storm water as it specifically relates to
their school.
The Water Stewards will help students mark all drains on the school property.
The Water Stewards can come with a rain barrel for your school, demonstrate how
to make them, discuss why they are beneficial, and connect it to a downspout.
There is a $50 cost for the rain barrel.
