Compaction and Cementation

These processes create

sedimentary rocks from sediments.

Compaction is the process of

sedimentary rocks being pressed
together by downward pressure.

Sediment

Cementation involves water

soaking through the gaps in the
sediments and "gluing" them
together.

Magma
Magma, or hot melted rock,
changes rocks through melting and
cooling. When it reaches earth's
surface by a volcano it is called
lava.
