Colours in the fc, cp and dps.

FR: The colours on the Front cover of ALT-MU are very bright and
flashy, this gives off a fun mood/impression and give the impression
that this magazine is very boisterous.
CP: The colours in the contents page are dark colours such as green,
purple and red, this gives off a spooky mood and deep feeling.
DPS: The dps is in black and white only, suggesting interview is black
and white (only the truth) but also that maybe there is some dark
truth in there too.

Design in the FC, CP and DPS

FR: The fonts are very bold which makes it seem like the words are being shouted
at you and draw your eye more, also are easier to read so you are more likely to
pay attention to what they say. The words and images fit together as the colours
are similar in the main image to the text so they blend together well.
CP: Bold fonts are used that catch your eye and they fit with the images as the
images are bold in colour too, this suggests that this magazine is very out there
and bold which people may find interested in.
DPS: The words and images fit together as in bold writing it says PETE BENNETT
which is who the main image is of. A patchy font has been used suggesting it
represent his story/life.

Images in the FC, CP

FC: The main image on the front cover is of Pete Bennet, which is
directly related to the main story as the main story is an interview
with him. I believe Pete is there as he represents the type of audience
they want to buy their magazine, which is alternative.
CP: On the contents page is two musicians, Pete Bennet again and
another musician, the target audience may look up to these
musicians as They are in the genre of music this magazine is about
and Pete Bennet is also directly related to the main story as the main
story is an interview with him, they both represent the alternative
target audience in hope to interest the target audience.

Pose, style, hair and makeup in the FR, CP and

DPS
FR: Peter Hook from Joy Division is who is featured in this magazine is
dressed in very bold red, white and black, he is smiling and in a very joyous
pose, he has crazy makeup on (purple eyeshadow and red lipstick) as this
leaks out his personality and represents their alternative target
CP: Once again Pete Bennet is smiling and wearing the same outfit with his
stand out bright coloured makeup, this creates an impression on the reader
that he is happy to be in this magazine which might suggest there is some
interesting content.
DPS: His facial expression in this one is actually dull and sad/angry whereas
the other two images were happy smiling, and its in black and white so
you cant notice his crazy makeup anymore, this gives the impression that
this interview/story is not a very happy one.

How the words are used in the FC and CP

FC: The front cover is very busy with text which suggests there is a lot inside suggesting
you are getting a lot for your money which might make you more likely to buy it. They
reach the interest of the readers because they show names of famous people they
might recognize as the target audience is fans of these musicians. At a glance you can
identify that it contains the band joy division and Pete Bennet which should attract
that target audience to see if other similar contents is inside. The text Is big enough to
read from a distance and will definitely stand out on a shelf.
CP: ALT-MU has made their magazine different as instead of saying contents page it
just says tents which makes them stand out above other magazines. They reach to
the audiences interests as they show everything that is in the magazine but only in
short sentences so they are interested to read more. You cant identify the contents at
a glance which makes the audience want to look closer to see what is inside. The word
tents (contents) is big enough to read so you know what that page is but the other
text giving the information is smaller so you would have to look closer to read it. I think
this makes it stand out on the shelf.

Language in the CP

The language on the cover page is different from normal magazines,

many teenagers now instead of saying longer words they shorten
them so they remember them easier, in ALT-MU they have used
tents instead of contents2 which the younger generation can relate
to ands find more appealing and grab their attention.

Overall Impression on the FC, CP and DPS

FC: ALT-MU is designed to appeal people of the alternative side of fashion and music, it does
this by putting the person in their main image in alternative clothing and he is from an
alternative band representing the readers interests. This does not address people of the pop
culture as this is completely opposite to the style they like and the music so they would not
want this magazine.
CP: The contents page gives a good indication of whats inside as it lists it all down very simply,
its designed to appeal to alternative teenagers I think it represents the readers interest very
well as it has used pictures of well-known artists as the background. This would not address to
people who prefer the pop or rock genre as they would not recognize the people and therefore
not have much interest in them.
DPS: The layout of the dps straight away gives you an impression about the story so I believe is
very effective in getting the readers interests as the target audience is people who love his
music and they tend to want to know stories about artists lives.

Institution and distribution

ALT-MU is published by Issuu they also publish Gay City News and
Juice this magazine would most likely be distributed in newspaper
shops and alternative shops such as Hot Topic or Rock Collection.
