Icys athletic skills and Carls musical ability certainly passed along to their children, and all of
the children credit their development to their balanced love of academics and something else.
Sam has worked at Kimberly Clark in Maumelle for over 20 years and currently has the title of Shift Team Leader for almost 3 years. Sharon has been actively employed at Save our Children in Morrilton
for over 25 years. They have worked very well together in raising their family and in being engaged and supportive members of their community.
Superintendent of Sunday school for approximately 8 years and has spent the past ten years as Superintendent of Sunday School. His church involvement has also included participating in the Middle
Western District Choir and as a current member of the St. Matthew #2 church choir.
In addition, to his volunteer work with youth, Sam has been active in his community in a number of other ways. He served on the Morrilton city Council from 2002-2005. During his tenure on City Council
he was selected as Chairman of the Parks and Recreation commission and also served on the Police and Personnel and Policy committee. `During 2015, Sam is serving as the Vice President of the Center
Community (where he was raised) and serves as a Co-Chair of the bi-annual Center Community homecoming committee. In that role he also organizes various events for the community center supportin
The 2015 recipients of the Outstanding Parenting Award were Samuel and Sharon McDaniel of Morrilton, AR. Samuel and Sharon have been married for 25 years and have
two children (Logan and Lindsey) currently attending Arkansas Tech University (ATU) in Russellville, AR. Sharon is also an Alumni of ATU where she earned a Masters in
Education. Sam and Sharons kids were active in Morrilton Public Schools and church (St. Matthew #2) activities throughout their childhood participating in band, football,
basketball, student government, and other extracurricular activities. Sam has volunteered to coach basketball over a number of years to help other young men develop
athletic skills while being a sound male role model for these young mens emotional. He coached the same summer teams of ~15 players he selected for eight years. They
traveled during the summer as students progressed through each age division. He also coached a 4th-5th grade Parks and Recreation team during the fall season for three
years. As he was not only interested in their basketball skills but wanting to help them develop and succeed academically, Sam and Sharon established a tutoring group
where Sharon was the tutoring team leader. They not only assisted the kids with study skills but also helped kids navigate the college admissions process by educating them
on admission requirements/deadlines and took some for campus visits. To fund these summer activities (basketball tournaments and summer school activities), Sam and Sharon organized an annual
basketball tournament called the Motown Showdown with approximately 30-40 teams across Arkansas. Sam also assisted with his players school activities by serving as a volunteer assistant basketball
The Rainey Parenting Foundation was founded by the children of Carl and Icy Rainey to recognize the outstanding job they did in supporting, nurturing, & raising their sixteen children but also to honor
their parents generosity of being actively engaged in the community. In 2015, the Foundation launched the Outstanding Parenting Award to recognize parents with the same passion for family and
community engagement exhibited by Carl and Icy during their 50 years of marriage.
