Personal Reflection

It is clear to detect the incorporation of scaffolding in this assignment, first by reading the
chapter, then developing the thick notes and receiving feedback, followed by creating the
PowerPoint, and, finally, by presenting. I purposefully chose to be n Group One because the
other Chapter seemed to incorporate more of the psychological aspects of learning, and because I
majored in Psychology, it did not feel like I as learning anything new. However, I have always
been able to realize the importance of knowing where you have been, so that you are aware of
where you are going. So being able to appreciate the historical contributions to reading and
learning that predate far beyond what I thought was enlightening, 20,000 B. C. E. with
logographic communication. The thick notes took quite a significant amount of time to complete.
Putting together the PowerPoint slides (the initial skeleton and graphics) for the team was
enjoyable, since I tend to favor that process. The presentation itself was a lot of fun. I was
already on vacation, which I tried to cancel but would have lost money, so went on anyway, but it
all worked out quite well. Altogether, this assignment was a good overall experience thanks to a
very receptive and responsible group of professional individuals. All emails were responded to
and after creating a meeting room to practice in on Adobe Connect, it felt extremely comfortable.
However, on the day of my nerves did get the better of me when the link did not work, but
knowing that this happens often, copy and paste seemed like the next logical option and it
worked. Following the presentation and having you, Dr. S, ask about VARK meant a lot and
affirmed that the presentation peeked interest, which was my goal, not just to regurgitate what
was already in the text. Overall, it was a very productive and enjoyable assignment that I learned

behind the science of reading and the value of the research that has been developed thus far.
