ON THE E AVENUE Saat ~ Bo La Crecké Experience: Story Retelling Date: 23/11/2015 Participating children: 24 Pre-Service Teacher: Ana Julia Nunez Learning objectives & links to EVFL: The children will listen to a Christmas story and then they will retell it in order to gain experience with later reading comprehension. Children can listen to a story and recall the characters, what the characters say, and details about the plot. EYLF Outcome 5: Children are effective communicators ~ Children engage in a range of texts and gain meaning from these texts. Requirements/resource * Story: Santa Claus’ Letter (from: The Project Gutenberg EBook of The Night Before Christmas and Other Popular Stories For Children, by Various Authors) * Blank paper (one per child) * Crayons Facilitation/implementation: - Read the book “Santa Ciaus’ letter’ - After the book has been read to the children, show the book and tell them to think about what happened in the story, the people (characters) and places they saw in the story. Ask them to think about what each character said. Some of the questions to be asked may be: ‘What did Jamie and Ted want for Christmas? How many sleds did they want? Wok WAS ie > Did the brothers get any presents? len Did they get the sled? eo 000 ~ Give each child a piece of paper and ask them to draw something they remember from the story.
