Cindy welcome to Division 9!

This is a Grade 2/3 class with 23 students. My Day Plan book is

located on the desk closest to our pink cupboards. You will get
an overview of our day with notes and reminders. Please feel
free to lock your belongings in the cupboards. Please look in
theWednesday folder for detailed instructions for the day
(located on the left side of the desk). If you have any questions
throughout our day please feel free to ask our E.A Mr. Sinclair,
and of course my S.A, Tara Miletich. We also work very closely
with Mrs. Mckie`s classroom. Please touch base with her, as
you will be working with her throughout the day. Her room is
number 13, and is two classrooms away from us. She usually
gets to the school by 8:25
Discuss meet up times for:
-All About Me activity (ideal time to meet in her room would
be for 9:30)
-Meeting spot for Public Library Visit (meet outside against the
fence for 11:00?)

A few students to mention:

Our Educational Assistant (E.A) Mr. Sinclair works with a few of
our students. Mr. Sinclair knows all the routines and
expectations of the students, and is a great source for help!
Mason has ADHD and a behavior designation. Please look at
the detailed safety plan for Mason found in my T.O.C folder.
Please feel free to ask Mr. Sinclair about how to handle any
situation with Mason. Eoghan has ADHD and Anxiety, and has a
hard time with unfamiliar faces. He has an intensive behavior
designation. Eoghan has the tendency to run away, so a
behavior plan is in affect. Please ask Mr. Sinclair about the
steps we take. If Mr. Sinclair is on break my S.A will step in as
an E.A and make sure to be there. Mr. Sinclair gives him
medication 2 times during the day. Michaella has ADHD and
chronic health impairment. We are working with her and
helping her become a better leader in the class. She is helpful
if you need help during any routine or task. Story has autism.
Greta and Emily can be anxious, and can become easily upset.
Jaden and Jaden- Wendi have a hard time focusing and staying
on task. Jaden can display behaviors that may aggravate or
frustrate other students. I like to sit both Mason and Jaden
apart.

Please ask upon Richard, Brian, Max. H and/or Max. M for any
help as they are very familiar with our routine.
Allergies:
Denali has a nut allergy. We do not allow nuts in the
classroom. She does not have an epi-pen but if she comes into
contact with any nut products please notify Mr. Sinclair , the
office and her parents.

Morning Routine: Attendance and Zones check

Our bell rings at 8:50. Please open our outside door to greet
the students. Students are to put their backpacks and jackets
into their cubby area and change into their inside shoes. Each
morning students are expected to leave their Planners open on
their desk to be stamped by Mr. Sinclair if they have been
signed by their adult. We also write a message in the Planner
at the end of the day (look at day plan for Wednesday
Message).
While students are getting organized bring green bin from the
far round table to the round table closest to the carpet. You
can also grab the instructions and worksheet for BLOCK A
P.O.W
Students are expected to sit in a circle on the carpet during
attendance time. Please feel free to sit at the carpet or on our
designated teacher chair facing the carpet. Some students may
need prompting for getting to the carpet. Our E.A uses a 5
minute timer once the timer goes off all students should be at
the carpet. In our classroom we use the Zones of Regulation
program. During attendance time we greet each student with a
Good morning <students name> and ask what zone they are
in. If you are unfamiliar with the Zones program we have a
chart on the board to guide you through. After you have
finished attendance, students will ask all teachers in the room
what zone each teacher is in.
Students: Good morning <teachers name>
Teacher: Good morning Division 9!
Students: What zone are you in?
Teacher: I am in the _________ zone because ________________

instructions

BLOCK A
P.O.W Spelling words
Materials for lesson: Spelling word flip chart, P.O.W folder,
P.O.W Worksheets, pointing stick, pen, spelling word
definitions sheet (attached to this paper)
On Wednesdays we introduce the students to their new
spelling words. New spelling words are arranged on our blue
flip chart (located in front of our whiteboard, on the right hand
side of our teacher chair). Students are aware of the system,
and can be asked upon for help.
Instructions:
Turn the flip chart over to display the new words. Redirect
students to face the chart.
Go through words. There are 3 separate groups for spelling
words and three separate categories for each group.
THEME WORDS: The first top four words for each group are the
theme words for the week. We are finishing up our structures
unit and are focusing on bridges. Go through theme words for
all 3 groups, ask students for their help in defining the word
(see attachment for the definitions I made). We are
encouraging them to define it.
SPELLING WORDS: The next five words for each group are the
spelling pattern words for the week. Ask the students if they

know what the spelling pattern is for the week (they usually
tap their nose to show they know). Read the words out loud as
a class.
SIGHT WORDS: The last three words are all the same across
the board; students will just read this parts out loud.
When we are done going through the words get our paper
people: Muhsin and Joana to hand out the P.O.W folders
(located in green bin) and P.O.W worksheet.
Students will then go to their desk, put their planners away
and have their chair down. PLEASE MOVE SPELLING CHART TO
THE MIDDLE OF THE CARPET SO ALL STUDENTS CAN WRITE THE
WORDS DOWN FROM THEIR DESK. Some students choose to
copy from the round table or carpet.
Once students are done they will come to a teacher and get
their words checked. Once their spelling words have been
approved they can put their words into their mail tins (tins
along the window) and read a book until 9:30.
At 9:30 students will have to put their P.O.W folders aside and
those who are not finished writing the words down will have to
stay in during recess.
