Miriam’s Classroom Management Plan

Welcome

 Daily, students will be greeted at the door and then expected

to come in and sit on the big carpet on my floor quietly and
wait for further instructions.

 We will go over a daily schedule together that will be written

on the board.

 A cart with all the daily supplies will be waiting for the students
to pick up after initial instructions.

Organization

 Each table will be named by artist (Monet

table, Van Gogh table) and each child will
switch off weekly being the supply captain who
will pick up all the supplies needed from the
cart. The supplies will be labeled with the
initials of the artist, so the students know
exactly which material is theirs.

 Each grade will have a designated cabinet,

which will be painted a different color of the rainbow. Any turn in bin or box that is blue
for example, is only for third graders.

 All materials, cabinets, and bins will have a clear label with a picture of the material on it.

Discussions and Critiques

 Students will be encouraged to brainstorm or collaborate

while working.

 Students will foster a positive environment full of open-

minded thinking and kindness.
 Students will be taught appropriate art language used when describing others and their
own art with an emphasis on constructive criticism.

 Discussions and critiques will often be teacher lead through leading questions.

 Any form of rudeness, malice, or disrespect will NOT be tolerated, and the child will
receive negative consequences.

Rules and Reinforcements

 Rules will always clearly be visible written on the walls of the

classroom.

 Students will receive a slip if they are not behaving or following

rules that invites them to a discussion at the teacher’s desk to
brainstorm positive solutions.

 Kindness, open minded thought, and respect will be emphasized

in the classroom. Failure for a child to demonstrate those
character traits results in a drawing prompt where the child will
illustrate four ways they could change the situation to
demonstrate positivity.

Closure

 I will set a timer for five-seven minutes before class ends

(depending on age and the size of the class) and when it
beeps, I will ring a bell to signal clean up time.

 Students will be responsible for making sure their areas

are clean and all supplies have been properly cared for.

 When students have completed their task, they should be

encouraged to help others finish theirs.

 When students have completed everything, they should sit

quietly on the carpet and wait for further instruction.
 Proper clean up procedures will be visibility written on the walls of the classroom so
students can refer to them if they aren’t sure what to do next.
