Lesson Plan
Title: UNO Basketball Warm-Up
Designated Content Area/Lesson Focus (skill or concept to be worked on): Dribbling
Sub Focus of the Lesson (concept of skill that serves as a modifier of the focus): Passing
Designated Skill Level: Control
National Standards- Standard 1-The physically literate individual demonstrates competency in a
variety of motor skills and movement patterns.
Standard 2-The physically literate individual applies knowledge of concepts, principles, strategies
and tactics related to movement and performance.
Standard 4-The physically literate individual exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that
respects self and others.
ELA or Common Core Standards- You can incorporate math with and reading with this lesson.
The students can flip two UNO cards and multiply or add them. Then the students will read the
description on the corresponding cones in order to execute the activity properly.
Behavioral Objectives
The student will be able to perform the correct form and amount of passes and dribbling skills
directed by the UNO cards.
Skill Cues
Square body to target, step toward target, bend, extend, release.
Safety Concern
Heart rates will be raised and balls will be used.
Materials/Equipment Needed
UNO Cards
4 Cones (Red, Blue, Yellow, Green)
Basketballs (One for each student)
Introductory Activity (time)
Students will engage in dribbling activities and passing with a partner to warm up and incorporate
basketball skills. (2-3min)
Organization/Management

Chest Pass

Bounce Pass

Overhead Pass

Baseball Pass

Lesson Focus (time)

Gym Set Up - Place one cone in front of each wall of the gym. On each cone place a sign (either
bounce pass, chest pass, overhead pass, baseball pass, etc.). In the middle of the gym, spread out the
UNO cards face down. A large number of students may require 2 decks of UNO cards. Remove the
WILD cards and SKIP 4 cards from the deck. Each student must have their own basketball.
Students will go to the middle of the gym and pick up a card and look at it (leave the card there after
looking at it - face down). If they picked up a RED UNO card they go to the wall with the red cone,
and perform the basketball pass that is written on the RED cone. For example, if the student gets a 4
RED card, he/she will perform 4 "chest passes" against that wall. There are also SKIP and
REVERSE cards in the UNO deck.
SKIP cards = dribbling the ball while walking, skipping, jogging around the colored cone that
corresponds to the card.
REVERSE cards = dribbling the ball while walking backward around the colored cone that
corresponds to the card.
Differentiated Teaching
We will be able to adapt and help these learners through pictures, colors, and demonstration.
Concluding Activity (time)
The activity will conclude with the students performing each of the dribbles and passes with a
partner in order to complete the lesson. (3-5min)
Evaluation/Assessment (time)
We will be able to identify if the students have learned the material by properly performing the
passes learned and executing both dribbles around the corresponding cone. (3-5min)
Technology
Technology will be used to show demonstrational videos to all students to ensure that they know the
proper technique in executing the skills.
