Ammar is a helpful and hardworking boy

One day, I was cleaning the table after lunch using a cloth and the disinfectant spray. I sprayed and
wiped the table alternately. My action caught Ammars attention and he started to approach me.
Ammar nak wipe he said, wanting to help me wiped the table. I sat down beside him after giving
him the cloth and spray to observe him. He copied what I did for a few times. That was not the only
time Ammar was being helpful. Sometimes, he helped me to put away the toys and sweep the floor.
Children doesnt know that grown-ups consider cleaning a nuisance. For them, its another fun activity.
By allowing them to put away the blocks, wipe down the tables, and put the toys back on the shelves
can be a valuable educational exercise for them.
Throughout this activity, Ammar learnt to sort, classify, match, and organize when he put the toys
back on the shelf. He also learnt that helping behaviours and orderliness are valued. At Annur
Childcare Centre, the children learnt that it is important to take care of their environment and that it
is easier to find what they want when they put it back in its designated place. Ammar learnt how to
follow simple directions and developed his self-discipline. With the instant feedback of a clean room
and a job well done, his self-esteem was enhanced.
In the future, we would encourage working together as a class to clean up their room to develop their
team working skill. By working alongside with the teachers and classmates can improve Ammars
language and social skills.
