Ahmad Increasing

Independence

July 2016

Ahmad has become independent and has grown a sense of self-identity. He wanted to do things on
his own and no longer relying on Sana.
One day, while we were having lunch, I noticed Ahmad was getting his lunch box from the trolley. He
was getting his mandarin from his lunch box. At Annur Childcare Centre, we encourage children to eat
their healthy foods first before eating their treat. I offered to peel the skin of the mandarin for him
but he refuse. I want to do it myself, he said while sitting down on his chair. He looked at the
mandarin for a while and turned it around trying to find out how to peel it. After a while, he poked a
hole and started to peel the mandarin small bits by bits. It took a while but he was really happy once
he has achieved it. Teacher Nur, he called me while showing me his peeled mandarin. He separated
each slices, arrange them on the table and stated to count how many slices he has. Every time he ate
one slice of the mandarin, I asked how many he had left. Masha Allah he can count really well.
Through this activity, Ahmad has develop his eye-hand coordination and challenge his problem solving
skills, figuring out how to peel the mandarin. He also learned some mathematic skill, subtracting the
mandarin slices that he has eaten.
Whats next for Ahmad?
InsyaAllah we will do a lot more activities that will develop his relationship skills with other children.
Ahmad will be as caring and helpful like Sana once he develop these skills.
