Athifah Prepares Morning

tea
Athifah doesnt talk much but she does a lot. She is a very clever girl. She
learns a lot just watching others. This morning when she saw me getting the
fruit basket ready on the table she came to me, I asked, Do you want to cut
fruit today. She just shook her head and went to wash her hands, she knew
that we have to wash our hands whenever we prepare food. Everyday
children have fruit and crackers for morning tea, and the children prepares
the fruit, and they love it. This is one of our very important real life practical
life activities. We have many activities in our Montessori practical life activity
shelf where children practice - pouring, spooning, transferring, learn how to
use a pair of tongs.
Athafah helped me to get everything
that we need to prepare fruit e.g.
chopping board, knife, plate and a pair
of tong. Then she sat at the table and
started to slice the apple first, I cut the
apple in half and she made it little
pieces. This is not the first time she
was cutting the fruit, She is improving
her knife skills. Every time she cut a
few pieces she put the knife down and
put those pieces on a serving plate
using a pair of tongs. She is good at
that because she practices how to use
tongs when she does practical life
activities.
