the authors opinion on a topic, provides
facts and examples to persuade the
reader to agree with the authors
opinion, and it may include text features
such as charts and maps.
Skill (Authors Purpose): Authors
Point of View: Authors have an
attitude or point of view about the topics
they write about. To find the authors
point of view students must first look for
details that reveal the authors position
on a topic. You should ask: What is the
authors attitude about this?
Strategy: Reread: When you read an
informational text, you may come across
information and facts that are new to
you. You can reread difficult sections of
a text to increase your understanding.
Vocabulary Strategy: Synonyms
and Antonyms: Sometimes the
author will use a synonym or an
antonym that will help you figure out the
meaning of the word. Synonyms are
words with similar meanings. Antonyms
are words with opposite meanings.
