Definition of SPM

•SPM is the transformation of the natural instantaneous values of a three-

phase system onto one phasor rotate with the same speed
•It is an alternate to the orthogonal-axis model
Advantages of SPM

1-Facilitate the formation and solution of electric machine equations

2-The system equations reduce from four to two

3-The system reduces to two winding system like the dc machines

Current space phasors
The current stator space phasor can be expressed as follows

The factor "c", takes usually one of two different values either 2/3 or √2/3
*The factor 2/3makes the amplitude of any space phasor, which represents a three
phase balanced system, equal to the amplitudes of one phase of the three-phase
system.
*The factor √2/3 may also be used to define the power invariance of a three-phase
system with its equivalent two-phase
