INTRODUCTION

Exercise physiology is the study of the short term and long term responses
of the body to exercise. Exercise physiology is the study of the processes
underlying exercise and contains essential knowledge, which is necessary
for guiding exercise program development. In this

chapter

basic

physiological concepts will be revised. Exercise physiology will be


introduced relating to modern training concepts, such as aerobic and
anaerobic exercise. Finally exercise physiology for special populations will
be introduced. Physiological differences throughout the lifespan will be
discussed including various special populations and sporting contexts.
